The top picture shows the c.1665 Parish Coffin at St John the Baptist and
All Saint's church, Easingwold, North Yorkshire. It is made from sawn oak
planks. Note the ring and staple used to secure the contents whilst awaiting
burial. Of all the contemporary coffins that existed this is the only one
to survive.
